Pro-D/ fun day with Mom

Jimmy works in the school district so on professional development days he has to work but the kids have the day off school. Since my work is super flexible I can take the day off and the three of us have some fun!

We started our day at the library which we love to do. They had an art project that the kids participated in involving writing letters. They amaze me with their humour and talent with drawing.

We then went out for lunch and had burritos and some delicious ice cream treats. Once we were back home it was time to switch up our closets from winter to summer which is always fun and tedious. The kids enjoyed trying all my heeled shoes on 😉

I cherish every moment I have with these amazing kiddos. They are growing up so fast!

Playdough creativity

Claire & Rhys can really get into playing with playdough. They particularly enjoy creating food (sushi, perogies, pasta, pizza etc.) and going a step further with creating menus, plate presentation and setting up a restaurant scene.

I love seeing their creativity and the moments where they work as a team 🙂

Parksville & Callum’s confirmation!

The day after I returned from my Alberta trip we drove up island so I could attend my Godson’s confirmation. We wanted to make the most of our trip so we stopped and skated, marveled in the beautiful views, hit up antique shops in Ladysmith and enjoyed our stay at Tigh’Na’Mara resort.

I met everyone in Nanaimo for an early dinner before the church ceremony. My Aunt Cathy and Josephine were there so we had a chance to catch up about my parents as my Mom is their sister. The meal was amazing and it was great to spend time with my godson and family. The church ceremony was lovely and it was so nice to be present for Callum and Isla’s confirmation. Congratulations you two!

Claire’s track meet

This is the second year that Claire has joined her school’s track team. The team practices for weeks before the big meet at school. Claire participated in the girls relay. The track meet took place at UVic stadium and a lot of schools attended. It makes for a fun & loud day. This was my second year attending and as always, I love participating in Claire & Rhys’ activities.

Claire and her team did great! They ran so fast and everyone was smiling.

Fathers Day

We had a nice early morning celebration for Jimmy this year. Claire and Rhys made clay gifts for Jimmy, beautiful cards and gave lots of sleepy hugs 🙂

Ethan’s Graduation

I don’t see my niece’s and nephew very often so when it came time for them to graduate high school I definitely make sure I am there to celebrate with them. This year Ethan was graduating so I made sure to buy a plane ticket and make my way to Alberta.

I wanted to spend time with my parents and to help them get their home ready for sale as I finally convinced them to downsize and move to Victoria so we could help them through their medical issues. Whoa! So much work. My parents house was taken over by my sisters belongings and with my Mom’s dementia the household organizing and cleaning fell to the wayside. There was a stray cat I had to deal with and in four days I was able to gain control of their home, have a realtor come through, organize painters to re-paint certain areas etc. It was exhausting!

During my time in Medicine Hat, I was able to spend some time with my eldest niece, Michaela and celebrate her eldest daughters birthday. I was finally able to meet her youngest child, Riley. He is such a cute little boy!

The main purpose of my trip was to be there for Ethan and celebrate his graduation. His school had a Catholic mass in honour of the graduates which we attended. There was a traditional graduation with speeches etc. and Ethan’s dad, Dave, and step-mom Amanda organized a lovely dinner out with family. It was really nice 🙂

Ethan hopes to go to culinary school one day. He is a funny & clever guy and I know he will be happy and do great things. Congratulations on your graduation Ethan!

Gardening

We have a giant back yard and it is a lot of work to maintain it. one of my favorite areas is our enclosed garden. Sadly, the four raised garden bed frames were weathered and falling apart. Jimmy is a wizard at these sorts of projects and he built me new ones! It took some time as he collected scrap wood to make it work but they are so much better… spaced out appropriately and sturdy. Thanks Jimmy!

Claire and Rhys enjoy gardening… Rhys tends to get a bit bored with planting but he is keen to weed and harvest what we grow. Claire helped me plant this year. We grew watermelon, pumpkins, kale, tomatoes, beets, carrots, cucumber – yum!

Ice cream!

There is a new ice cream spot in town… Chocolats Favoris and it’s epic. The first time we went there the kids ordered a kooky cone which takes a normal ice cream soft serve to the next level! They dip the ice cream into chocolate and then they attach cake or brownie etc. to the side. Needless to say it was WAY too much sweetness for the kids.

The second time we visited the shop things were a bit more tame and more fun because Jimmy’s friend Theola was in town from Portland! She is a great family friend and really great with the kids. She promised them an ice cream date the next time she was in town and voila! we took her to Chocolats.
