Northwest Deuce Days in Victoria

Victoria hosted the world’s largest gathering of Deuces, aka 1932 Fords. 1,400 cars were on display at the Inner Harbour and there was a special car parade at Clover Point.

The weekend brought nice sunny weather and it was SO fun to watch the car parade, seeing all these older folks and some younger driving with pride of their old Fords. We also enjoyed walking downtown with thousands of other people to get a closer look at the cars. Claire was determined to see every car and Rhys was so over it after a few hours but we managed to get to them all and it was fun.

A stroll through Mystic Vale

We like to go for walks and hikes as a family. A  recent trail that we went on is Mystic Vale at UVic. I walked here when I went to university, but the kids had never been here before. It’s a neat forested ravine with large Douglas Fir towering overhead.

Faye visit

When we left Vancouver for South Africa in 2013 I moved away from a very special friend. Faye was my university roommate. I moved from home in Kelowna and went to UVic at the age of 17 and did not know anyone at UVic. Faye was my first roommate and I really lucked out. She is a really great person. I’m sad that we don’t live in Vancouver near each other anymore.

On a recent island trip where Faye was visiting her family with her girls she came to Victoria to spend one extra night so we could have a visit! We met for dinner and then swam at the pool in their hotel. It was so great.

I miss you Faye and I am so happy we were able to meet up. Lets do it again soon ♥

Canada Day

One of our annual family gatherings that we host is a Canada Day BBQ.

The sun was shining and we had a nice visit with family (Debbie, Wendy, Chris & Senna). We had some good chats and yummy food. Until next year!

Nana & Papa visit

My parents had to travel to BC for my Dad’s first annual cancer appointment to make sure he is doing well. It was nice having them here for a short visit before they were off to see more family and friends on their way back home.

My Mom has not progressed much with her dementia which is so great as we haven’t seen them since they lived with us during my Dad’s treatment. We have been talking in great length about my parents moving to Victoria as they would have better access to healthcare and it is time for my Dad to stop working and be my Mom’s caretaker. My parents put their home up for sale. It sold and now we have to find a good place for them to move to.

We visited many seniors care homes which are independent but OMG they are $$$ and my parents are not quite at that stage yet. The search continues!

Vic West skateboard contest

This years skateboard contest was #16! Jimmy runs the Vic West contest every year and this years event was really great. Way to go Jimmy!

A special addition was Claire who was a competitor and she came in fourth! Go Claire go!

Chinese school dance event

Our friend Lise invited us to a Chinese dinner and performance that her daughter was participating in with her fellow school mates from the Chinese school. It was a really great event- the dancing and music was wonderful and we all enjoyed the delicious food!
